DIY Baby Mobile

There were so many mobiles that caught my eye as I was looking for inspiration for little 'Pea Pods' room. I finally took a few ideas and combined them to make this one. It was pretty simple and I loved how it turned out!

Materials needed:

Colored & Patterned cardstock
Shape cutter
Thread
Needle
Embroidery Hoop
Ribbon
Glue Gun
Fishing Line
Hook

Cut out a variety of circles, ovals, whatever shape you like. I used ovals.

With a thread and needle string them together in any random order, varying the lengths of thread.
For the best results use the smallest needle possible and double the thread. This ensures a tight fit so your cut outs don't slide away on you. You can also add a dab of glue to the underside of each cut out to ensure they won't move anywhere.

Tie each length to an embroidery hoop.

Wrap the embroidery hoop with ribbon, securing the ends with hot glue. In hindsight, I should have done this first before tying the strands on, but I was trying to hide the thread...so whichever way works for you! Doing it this way just means you have to equally spread out all the threads beforehand. I then used 3 pieces of fishing line to secure to a hook in the ceiling and then 'fluffed' each oval into the perfect place!

and....TADA!

Hi, I was wondering if you could tell me how many ovals you used per thread? I am going to attempt to make a mobile for my nursery this weekend and want to be sure that I get enough cardstock!

Thank you,
Erica

I used 12-18 ovals per thread- I varied the lengths of thread so use that as your guideline...have fun!

I love this mobile and have gotten half way with it, but am now trying to thread the paper discs together and am finding that they are just sliding down the thread, even when I tie knots under the discs. It appears you didn't have to tie knots with yours - any tips on size of needle or type of thread to use to keep the discs in place? Thx!

@courtney-I have heard from a few readers that had a similiar problem. I used the smallest needle that I could find so I think that helped a lot. Try adding a dab of clear glue to the underside of each oval? That might work, or doubling up the thread? Hope it works out for you :)
