Shelley contacted me a few weeks ago about her company, Dignify. and I was immediately drawn in, first, at both of us being Canadian, second by all the beautiful things that caught my and third-icing on the cake-the purpose of her company! Great minds were brought together to form a beautiful project...
'I (Shelley) met Robin, the co-founder and managing director of BASHA, on a short stint in Vancouver. I learned about the work she was doing in Dhaka, Bangladesh with women who were redeemed from sex trafficking and retrained to create blankets in the Bengali tradition of kantha.
Inspired by the story of redemption in these blankets – and also in love with their hip design & heirloom construction – I wanted to purchase one for my friend as a wedding present. She had been widowed and was remarrying a fantastic man who would join her in partnership and as a father to her three children. I loved the idea of connecting these two great redemption stories from wholly different circumstances and parts of the world.
A simple desire to make the beautiful blankets available in the Canadian market soon expanded in vision to include a more well-rounded offering of products, all made by real people for whom doing the work would bring dignity & livelihood...'
I could go on and on about all of the eye candy available at Dignify and tell you that you will fall in love with all the beautiful and eclectic items for sale, and how wonderful it is that everything is handmade by undervalued people all over the world! The purpose of Dignify is to provide dignity & livelihood to those same women, those same women who are learning and teaching as they find a purpose and safe place in this world...
