Realizing & Accepting

As I am sitting on the deck watching the boys play, I realize it's been a long time time since I've just sat and thought about pretty little simple things. Like how there is something so gorgeous about the early morning fall sun. It has this warm and inviting hazy orange glow to it, unlike the hazy yellow sun in the summer, which is still gorgeous but you know sooner or later it's gonna be a hot one out there... or the crickets, who have been sing songing all day and all night around here for the past few weeks, and it's so nice...I am welcoming the cool comforting nights with the windows open as opposed to the hum of the air conditioner. I am anticipating comfort food in the crock pot and snuggly blankets on the couch...

Yes, it's been a long time since I sat down and did nothing.  No thinking about what needs to be done, not yelling at the kids cause I hear someone screaming or throwing a tantrum, not trying to remember if I took meat out of the freezer for supper, not trying to whip through 20 emails that are sitting in my inbox all eagerly anticipating my reply {not-haha!}, not working on design projects or cutting out fabric for my shop...Yep a long time to just take a second, just to sit and maybe close my eyes and soak up the last little bit of warm summery like weather...

This weekend Mike and I are leaving the kids at my parents and having a weekend away with some friends. I know! Can you believe it, how crazy and free spirited are we?! HA! I should be excited about it, but you want to really know what I'm thinking? I've been thinking that I would really like to try and get out of this weekend, so that I can spend the weekend doing everything that I have on my to do list....blogging, shop orders, cleaning, organizing, shopping...That's bad, isn't it? How I would rather have a weekend to myself then spend it with my husband. Eek. I just got hit by lightening. That's bad. I should be counting down the days till we get to spend some much needed, MUCH NEEDED time together....

So back to my moment of solitude today... when I finally did get a second to sit down, you know what I thought about as I was trying to clear my mind? How I can't clear my mind. Yep, why do I have so much 'stuff', and that is exactly what it is-STUFF, going on up there?! Why do I think I need to take on everything, right now?! Bottom line is, I am an unorganized over achiever always wanting more but never knowing how to juggle it all! Can you believe I actually have a draft in my post folder tittled, The Secret to Balance?! Ha! Obviously I was feeling on top of things that day! I think I have been taking the saying, 'live for today' a little too literal. And I do this all the time. I think about how bad I am at juggling things, so I cut back on things and relook at my time management, but then I always get stuck in the same routine after awhile. It's awful. It's annoying. I wish someone would tell me how not to do that. I need a help group. Haha.

So my realizations today...

That lately my stuff was more important then my life. And my stuff was definitely not my life.

I realized that I do not have to accomplish everything in a matter of days or weeks or months, or whatever the ridiculous timeline that I gave myself was.

I realized that I can relax every now and then, I can shut off my brain to the outside world and say no, not today!

AND yes, yes, I will enjoy this much needed weekend away with my husband and friends!!!

Today, I will try so very hard not to multitask until my brain explodes, to put my feet up more, to enjoy being a mom more, to enjoy my husband more...before all these enjoyable things are gone and I have no idea what the heck I was doing while everyone else was enjoying life.

Happy weekend!

Embracing My Journey

This was a previous post that I wrote for Baxtron {Life}... but just in case you missed it...

indeed

After over 10 years of working in the Fashion/Retail industry and deciding to be a SAHM shortly after having my 2nd son, I started looking at myself differently. I was wondering what made me~ ME~ or what defined ME. It's funny how having kids made me wonder who I had been this whole time. Not in a bad way of course, I love my kids and they mean the world to me. But they have made me question who I truly was, or who I truly wanted to be, and what I wanted in return. For the first time in my life it was just me and two kids, while my husband worked the nine to five grind. That left little room for quality ME time but I often found myself feeling very alone. Adult interaction was very limited unless you counted the daily phone call to my best friend and emails. The truth was that in addition to post partum blues, feeling fat, and having a brand new baby and toddler, I was a bit lost without having a 'real' job. I had never really felt that my job had defined me, but once I didn't have it, I felt a little naked without it. For instance, I usually would have  answered the 'what do you do?' question pretty comfortably. My response would have been simple, I'm a Store Manager for a small retail company. That would get the conversation flowing as to what we sold, blahblahblah... But now, when people ask what I do now, what do I tell them? I'm a SAHM/Blogger/Shop Owner/Photographer/Graphic Designer?....the list could go on and on....LOL...and I tend to shy away from telling them my lists of things I do. {Because honestly, I do way to many things and quite often not all of them are done to the best of my ability. But, maybe that is just one of my flaws..I like to be busy! I am also the worst self promoter ever!} So I usually end up saying nothing, that I am just a SAHM. The conversation, unless it's with other moms, usually ends there...Because really, who would find that interesting? Who would care that my kids and I color, go to the park and I clean up pee on the floor.

I think I struggle with putting a label on myself. Or rather what my career path is and where I ultimately will end up. I am an instant answer person, so the journey thus far has been a bit of a headache but definitely a  learning experience...
Pinned Image

I can think of a million things that would be cool to do, but how long would I enjoy it? I guess like most things, marriage for instance, it's all fun and games in the beginning but then it takes a bit of work to keep the fun and excitement there. I suppose just like a new job would feel? Exciting and new and then bam! You wake up doing the same routine thing for the rest of your life. I don't want that. I don't ever want to lose the passion that I have for what I do everyday. Ideally, what I want is something easy {doesn't everyone!} something that doesn't take time away from my kids, something that I don't feel pressured to do and that cures the hankering I have to just create and of course make money!!!

via

Maybe I am being selfish? Maybe I shouldn't be taking this time to figure things out while my husband works his butt of at work? Maybe I need to squash my passion {whatever it is} and figure it out later? After all, life is the journey, right? Do I need to have it all figured out now? Or should I embrace this journey called self discovery and find the path that will take me to the place that I have been longing for...?

Do you know what your passion is?

Free vs. Fear

A few weeks back I was driving on some familiar gravel roads. The kiddos were zonked in the back seat, and as I drove and looked out the window I couldn't help by get that nostalgic feeling. You know, that feeling of when you were there last, who you were with, what song was playing on the radio, the smell in the air. I could actually close my eyes and BE there. My thirty two year old self was transformed into my 17 year old self, thrown back into the days of not caring what anyone thought, not having to be anywhere at anytime, just living, perhaps doing something completely stupid, but loving every second! Then I thought, what the heck is wrong with me? Why don't I have memories of my prior self being that happy and free? Is it because I do things with caution? A whim for me would be a carefully drawn out plan of what we are doing at every exact second...not very carefree, huh?

First, before I go any further, let me explain...I love my life. Every little thing. Well except the whining. And the temper tantrums. Usually on any given day I am extremely thankful. But there are certain times when I'm left to my own crazy thoughts, and my mind runs a mile a minute.

And so on this clear, sunny, beautiful day...I was thinking about all those wonderful teenage memories and wondering why I wasn't having that much fun anymore...and here is my analogy...

I think the answer to that question is Fear. Depending on the situation, different places bring up different scenarios. But my fears at one time or another can be summed up into the following...

A general fear of the unknown.
A fear of trying something new.
A fear of failing.
A fear that something bad will happen.

All of these fears are pretty standard, and for the most part we all have to face these fears throughout our lives. But how do we stop those fears from controlling what we do or don't do? How do I stop thinking about the outcome of certain situations and just focus on being. Being free and living?

Most recently my worst fear is that something bad will happen. This fear is probably the worst and truest fear of mine. Knowing that bad things {sometimes really bad things}can happen.

Rewind to when we are young. As a mom to two toddlers I know all to well how fearless they are. Learning new things, knowing that someone will always be there to catch {for the most part}. Standing on things that you shouldn't, not wanting to hold hands as you walk across the street. Kids have no capable way of knowing that something bad could happen. The word bad to them means being sent to the naughty chair because they didn't share with their brother. As a teenager you are a bit more aware of the cruelty of the world, but you develop that invincible attitude, thinking nothing can happen to me, and more often then not you get buy those wonder years with barely a scratch...

But as an adult, I am more aware of what can go wrong. I would definitely think twice about going for a walk by myself at night in the dark, I even get nervous crossing a road sometimes.  It could be as simple as not going on a roller coaster for fear of it falling. Holding my purse a bit more tightly while walking on the street or double checking the locks before I go to bed...

When I was 16, my mom would let me ride my bike on the main road to a friends houses, and it was a 45 minute bike ride!Who let's their kids do that anymore?! Not to mention that she let me load up the family van, pack my friends in and go on a 4 hour road trip to go camping when we were 18! I can't even imagine letting my kids do that! What if they got kidnapped? Got in an accident? Worse...

What I am getting at though is, Is there a way to LIVE without being in fear? On some level I think that a teeny tiny little bit of fear is good. It keeps us grounded. But I wish I could be a little more free. I wish I didn't always think of how things could go wrong and just for once in my adult years closed my eyes for a second and took a leap of faith.

Looking back I am grateful and appreciative to have been my former carefree self, and I am glad that I had those experiences. I truly believe that it is better to live in the future then the past, but sometimes I would love to have a little bit of that carefree spirit that I used to have...

...just a bit.

What's your style?

You most likely know a few people who have their own unique way of expressing themselves to the world through a multitude of ways including fashion and home decor. Both of these things speak volumes in regards to signature style and communicates an important message to those who cross your path. From the colors of the walls, the cleanliness of your floors, the trinkets on your shelves, your shoes, your hair, your jewelry...everything you own and wear translates into a part of your style. Maybe you are one of them, or maybe you are like me and are still in self discovery mode. I would love to be able to say that I have a signature style, a style that expresses my personality and creativity and helps to create the life that I desire to live. But my journey at getting to that 'place' has just started to reveal itself.

During the past 10 years or so, style/fashion/design have played a big role in my life. Whether or not I was conscious of that fact is another story. Between college and working I was constantly surrounded by creative, fashionable people, some fully content on where they were in life and others still self discovering.

Kids...that's what did it for me...having kids made my style evolve and change direction. A perfect direction.
My priorities changed, my life changed, the way I viewed myself changed and opened me up to who I truly am...although I may not be fully embracing it clothing wise, being at home everyday doesn't require much more then yoga pants and a t-shirt! My home sure has benefited the most by my sudden found signature style and is my drawing board for trying new things.

Know yourself...

I've always been the type of person to just know what I like, no explanation, no right or wrong, I just knew. But what I didn't know was how to pull it all together in order to create 'my' style. I would spend tons of time ripping out pages in magazines, dream, bookmarking things on the internet. However, when it came to interpreting those pretty things into anything more, it was a bust! I could dress a mannequin like no ones business and I could pull together outfits for clients, but for myself I always felt like something was missing.

It’s easy to get swept up into the idea that you must have the newest trends and celebrity styles in order to be 'stylish.'

{Flashback}Eight years ago, we had just moved into our first home and I was dying to decorate! I was flipping through a Home Decor magazine ripping out inspiration, when I found 'the' room! It was classy, neutral and beige on beige. I though, this is it, this is how I want my room to look..So that weekend I spent time going through all of our stuff keeping out the classy, brown things and packing up our colorful stuff. Our brown living room was taking shape, and you know what...BLAH...I hated it! Three months later we bought a bright red sectional! Go figure...

3ACM-boardover
{via}

Earlier this year, we did major renovations on our house. It was wonderful-the outcome, not the actual reno! I had a blank slate when it came to decor. Aw...every creative persons dream! It was my test, my test that life handed me to see if first, my marriage could survive a reno-check!And second to test my signature style. What would I do with this empty slate? Would I fill it with things that I loved, colors that spoke to me? Amazingly enough I was in the right place at the right time, trying new things, figuring out where I fit in. So ya, the outcome was perfect. It was me. Check! Had I had to conquer this a few years ago, my kitchen would have looked totally different then what it does today and would not reflect my true style at all.

So what is my Signature Style?

That's a very good question and I have no idea as to what the correct answer is. I know that I love color! I love being creative and having a blank slate...canvas, paper, wall, rock...anything that I can add color too! I'm happy, I love to goof around and laugh, a DIY'er at heart, I admire a minimalist style but would feel so bare living with it, instead my home is filled with family photographs, children's paintings, colorful quilts, handmade things with a story! Rustic furniture with bits of bling. I like wearing statement jewelry and I would be lost without nailpolish. I am a Pisces girl thru and thru...blue hues from the ocean, bare feet and soft worn jeans, layers to complement the sea breeze-these things all pull at my heart strings. Comfortable is the way to go. So am I Modern Country? No...Boho Chic? Nope. Beachy Quirky? Maybe...

What about you? Do you have a signature style? How did you figure it out?

My journey of self discovery and signature style are far from over but I know that once I capture it, I am going to embrace it, love it and show it off, because half of the fun is in the presentation of it to to the outside world and I think that should be nothing short of inspiring!

Creativity in my Life

Awhile back, I did a guest post over at Little Homemade Housewife, Mrs White, the fabulous lady in charge over there, asked me....

'What would you say is your main creative aesthetic, and how did you start/find it?'

About 15 years ago, I would have answered fairly quickly by saying that painting was the main thing I used to show off my creativity. I started painting and drawing really early in life. I remember spending many summer days outside sketching our family cat laying in the sun, drafting up my dream house on graph paper-room by room. I had all the patience in the world, erasing and redoing until it was perfect. My imagination was endless! Enter in high school and ART class was the place I fit in, I felt like that was my passion. I loved the freedom of painting my sketches, I loved the smell of a new canvas, the fluid motion of my brush in the wet paint...

Over the years my passion for painting is still there. But the time to do it, is not. Jobs, boyfriends, school, friends...and then a husband, two kids, a home...it's hard to find the time to get out the paint (other then to finger paint with my almost 3 year old!)

Now, the one thing that I can truly say will always be my creative aesthetic is photography. I don't even think twice about picking up my camera and shooting 100 different shots in an hour. It's a natural part of our day, my kids always see me with my camera, and they know that mom is taking pictures, again. Editing them is so much fun, playing with textures and actions in Photoshop, there really is no limit as to what you can do! I love it! Truly bringing a moment to life through a photo is an amazing thing.

The best part of this passion of mine is that it is an essential thing. Everyone takes photographs, right? For remembering special moments, keeping track of milestones. It fits easily into my life and I don't have to carve out a particular chunk of time to do it in, photography is portable and goes with me everywhere. It's a great tool to use to appreciate the small things in this fast paced life!

Photography will always be a part of me, especially with little feet running around. Painting will always be there too, just not on a large 5 foot by 3 foot canvas, but on a roll of paper; paint oozing from tiny fingers. As I grow and learn new things, as I try to balance, fall down and pick myself back up, creativity will always be there and for that I am so thankful!

And that's what my blog, Imprintalish is about. It's my Impressions, Inspirations and Imperfections. My moments of being a mommy to two gorgeous little boys, to being a wife, to being an aspiring WAHM, to being the best women I can be, one day at a time, through all the ups and downs and of course, through all the beautiful moments too!

Live True. Be You.

For those of you that are familiar with Digging Deeper and the fabulous Digger, you may have noticed that she has started a new series called Live. True. Be You. A couple months back Digger invited me to be apart of this series and I was really excited about it! After humming and hahing over it for what seemed like forever, I finally sat down to prepare my video. This is my very first VLOG, I was super nervous and had no idea what to say! But after awhile it felt kinda natural, I mean, I talk to myself in my head all the time, trying to rationalize something, or talk myself into or out of something, so doing a video wasn't really any different. The question however was a bit difficult...How do you live true? How do you be you?

Want to check out my video for yourself? Head on over to Digging Deeper...

The Day I Lost my Hairstylist....{Naked Face Challenge}

Lately I've been blaming my bad hair days on having kids. You know the drill...mom of two lets herself go because she is so busy taking care of everyone else, that her own needs and wants bite the dust.

Or so I thought...but after mulling it over, I think the truth about my bad hair goes way back to the day I lost my favorite hair dresser to the big city...

She was fabulous! Always thinking of new and creative ways to cut and color my hair. I didn't even have to ask or tell her anything, she just did her thing while we chatted about anything and everything. It was LOVE.

For almost 3 years she worked her magic on my hair...plum, copper, short, long, asymmetrical, bangs, no bangs...

She started out at a local salon and eventually moved to a bigger city about half and hour away, I followed her of course, but my visits got longer and longer apart.  Prices went up, gas went up, and then I got pregnant....but I still went and got fabulous cuts when I could!

And then the worst thing happened... she moved 2 hours aways!URGH...there was no way I could follow her, let alone afford it!

That was nearly two years ago, two babies and some BAD cuts later...here I am...looking pretty shabby...

My Naked Face-no makeup and unedited!

All thanks to the day I lost my hairstylist...throw in some gray hairs, lack of funds, box dye, lack of time and...it's a disastor up in there on the best of days!

Ok...LOL...totally not my hairstylists fault...but I have to blame someone and my kids are just to darn cute!
Funny, how things can change so much in a couple years and I am only blaming my hair stylist cause she was pretty awesome! Sara, you rock!!! :D

How has your hair/makeup changed since having kids?

Oh, and if your feeling brave I'd love to see you post your naked (no makeup!) and unedited face photo :)

Leave me a link if you are!

and then, she {snapped}

For anyone just stumbling upon my blog, I want to give a big wave {waving!}and a huge hello! And to give you somewhat of an impression of who I am...why not roll right into Sunday Confessions shall we?

1. My mom is the best gardener I know! Growing up I didn't care if I stepped on a plant or what was growing in the vegetable garden. Now...I love to garden! Which is yet another reason why I can't wait for spring to get here!

2. I really miss walking across clean floors, I mean clean as in I'm not tripping over toys. When I do trip over them, I may or may not throw them across the floor.

3. I can wiggle my right ear without moving any facial features. Yes, I know. I am awesome. LOL.

4. My favorite time of the day is laying in bed with my 2.5 year old before he goes to sleep at night. We giggle, give butterfly kisses and tell stories, it's the best!

5. I really need new bras...I am still wearing my nursing bras...Westyn is almost 11 months old and I stopped breastfeeding when he was 7 months old...ah, to be a mom!

Ok, enough about me, now it's your turn, link up your blog's home page (not a specific post) and then go on and meet some new friends!!! :) This is also a BLOG HOP so you can grab the code and add it to your page too!

Blah....

This week has been kinda blah....

The kids have been so well behaved and we've had tons of fun building forts and painting. But I've been feeling blah. February has got me DOWN. I am so uninspired. Unmotivated. And I have not felt like blogging AT ALL. I was kinda happy that I had a couple scheduled posts all ready to go for this past week. I convinced myself that those would just have to do. I even skipped How Pinteresting Wendesday, and I love that day! Even today...meh...that's how I feel. Life is good, no complaints. But meh.

I haven't even picked up my camera all week, other then a few random shots I took of the kids today.

Usually on Friday's I'm rushing around trying to find photos for Scavenger Hunt Sunday or linking up to The Winter Photo Challenge...but today, I got nadda! Sure I could try and get creative and pull some things together, but am lacking any morivation to do so. It would be so much easier if we could be outside! I think we've been outside once all week, and it was really foggy and drizzling rain. Not great weather for pushing two kids around in the stroller, but this mama needed some fresh air! It was that or freezing cold, blistery windy weather. I am so jealous of all you warm weather people right now! You know who you are...toes in the sand, T'shirts blowing in the breeze, kids at the playground. Yep, I am JEALOUS!

My home is so uninspiring right now too, dust, toys, walls half painted, kitchen partly done, dishes, laundry...blah.....

Winter Blues go away, come again another day never.

I need some sunshine to recharge my batteries...anyone want a house guest for awhile? LOL. Or maybe I need a stiff drink, LOL. Or maybe Spring should come a little sooner! Yes! That is the plan, I will make Spring come earlier...

Until I can get a hold of Mother Nature I will try really hard to get out of my funk...and be back and ready on Sunday for the BIG BLOG HOP!

how I should be doing more things, like replying to emails or getting the boys dressed this morning -but I don't wanna.
Anticipating…
the end of our renovations and the weekend!Oh, and my haircut next week!!!Oh, and spring to come!
Listening to…
My husband snoring.
Eating…
Toast with Nutella on it.
Wishing…
That I could be a bit more relaxed and that I could spend everyday like yesturday...hanging out with friends while watching our kids play! Unfortunately, we all live so far way from each other.

I confess...

Sure my blog is pretty and my posts are generally on the positive side. I would ever only post a photo of myself that I feel represents me on my BEST day, as in, I took an hour to get ready, wash, blowdry, straighten my hair. I put on makeup and destroyed my room tyring to find the perfect outfit to wear.

Often I will come across a blog and fall in love with the asthetic of it and once I dig a little deeper I find that the person behind the blog is just as beautiful too. I wonder how much of it is true?

Because the person I described above certainly isn't the real me. The real me hasn't had a haircut for 3 months and I have a box (yes, sadly a box!) of hair dye sitting in my bathroom just begging me to use it.

This is the real me. All my gray hairs....

And all my post pregnancy baby hairs growing back that give me the fuzzy hair look...

My nailpolish that is chipped and has seen better days...

The real me means I went to the park today with greasy hair, yoga pants and no makeup on. I busted my ass for 20 minutes to a Jillian Michaels (45 minute-I could barely do 20!) DVD. I cleaned the toliet while my two year old ate breakfast at 8am this morning. My shirt has snot all over the shoulder cause Westyn has a runny nose.
Yep, that's my life. Yet, I can still sit here and make things pretty on my blog. I guess it kind of gives me a break from the not so pretty!

Check out this post over at Babble...it's pretty fabulous....it's about what moms did with their time before kids.

Some other confessions:

I like reassurance. I won't ask for it and I am not someone that flat out says how good I am at something. I would like to be able to do that, but just can't. But I totally love it when someone tells me I rock! Little ego boosts never hurt do they?!

I used to be 10 minutes early for everything...now I stroll in at the exact minute I'm supposed to, if not later. Two kids will do that to you.

I think I have split personality disorder or some other issue. Because one second I could be raging mad and the next minute I can be fine.

I do not adapt easily to change. Ten years ago, I had no problem, now I loathe change.

I am pretty quiet when I meet new people. Which is why I am glad my husband is a bit more 'out there' or we would be hermits all the time!

I have a folder in my favorites file of cool blogs that I have found along the way that I want to visit, and I will probably never have time to do it.
