Today I am going to be sharing with you a quick and simple tutorial on making your own photo ornament for your Christmas Tree. I shared this tutorial over at Ambiance last week and wanted to reshare it with you in case you missed it! This is a perfect gift for anyone on your list and displays those oh so cute photos you have sitting in a box! (or rather on your computer-get printing!!!). It looks great on the tree, attached to a present or wrapped around a jar full of goodies!!! My original design was for a circle (was not easy to sew-maybe for more advanced sewing skills!). This tutorial though, shows you how to create a square photo holder (which was easier for me to sew!).
Felt (I got mine at the dollar store-3/8x11 sheets for $1.50)
Ribbon/Wire/thread (to hang on tree)
Cut out squares on a piece of felt. I used my photo that I already had printed for a guideline on size. Then cut out your 'frame' inside one of the squares. It was roughly a 2x3 photo.
Sew around the outer edges, leaving one end open. Keeping the felt under your needle, slide your photo in the open end. Continue sewing the last edge shut. You can still move your photo around (I could anyway as I left enough room), so position it where you would like it to be and sew the edges around your frame to hold your photo in place.
This is the fun part, you can personalize it with names, dates, anything....I chose the word joy. So I got out my letter stamps that I have never used, dipped them in black ink and stamped away. As you can tell, it 's not centered but oh, well! When I do it again, it will be :)
To make the hook to hang it from the tree, flip your frame over and stitch a ribbon to the back. You could also use thread or wire, maybe even some beads on fishing line?
Hang on the tree! Voila! Cute. Cheap. Simple.
